Nancy Rust and Carol Stubbs are co-authors of A Louisiana Christmas: Heritage Recipes and Hometown Celebrations, a book about the holiday foods and events that uniquely combine the allure of Louisiana with the spirit of Christmas. Their second book, What's Watching Me? And Other Animal Stories, was inspired by their love of animals and a desire to share their love of reading with middle grade readers. Carol and Nancy are both former teachers who now teach a writing class through VITA (Volunteer Instructors Teaching Adults). They are members of Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, Heritage Rose Foundation, and Acadiana Writers and Illustrators Critique Group.
Andrew Higgins built boats that could "crunch through driftwood, bounce over logs, climb a beach" and "wham up on a sloping concrete sea wall." In World War II that was exactly what was needed to get soldiers and Jeeps from the ocean to land. This biography for young readers is available for pre-order on amazon.com
On Sept. 10, authors Nancy Rust and Carol Stubbs sat down with Museum curator Josh Schick to discuss their new book, Andrew Higgins and the Boats That Landed Victory in WWII. The talk is available on YouTube, and the book is available for purchase on the museum website.
